4/15/10
I forgot to post the past few weeks, but I did get practice time at home on my own piano over spring and Easter break! My family enjoyed having me home and hearing me play my music.
Tonight I practiced for one hour on my piece Hallelujah. I am having a hard time so I am hoping to find another version of the piece that is more at my level. If not, maybe I will find another piece that may be a little easier for me to pick up on.

I practiced tonight for 1 hour (8-9) and worked on scales since I left the rest of my music at home in CT after spring break!

Went to the lab on Tuesday and worked on a couple of pieces for about an hour. I also went back to the lab last night to try and find some new pieces I may want to try. I'm so picky! I love playing Beauty and the Beast..."Tale as Old as Time," but I heard that someone might be playing that already?
Ms. Denitto...Any suggestions? I want something kind of modern or recognizable...or something like Ballade our Adeline.

I came in tonight from 8:15-9:00 and worked on two new pieces I found, one of which I will choose to work on and play in the final recital!

2/11/10
I went to the piano room on Tuesday just to work on the new sheet of music that I found for myself ("Ballade pour Adeline"- a very pretty piece). The Robs then helped me to choose two more pieces that I proceded to practice for the hour and a half that I was in the music lab; an MJ tribute- "Will You be There" and a favorite from Rent- "Seasons of Love." I'm going to head to the music department semi-early tonight so I can some more practice in and decide which song I like best to perform later on. :)

Second week of classes-
I got an override into piano and went to my first class last Tuesday. I believe I stayed there for about 20-25 min and practiced some strengthening techniques as I have no experience with piano.
Third Week of Classes-
I asked Ms. Denitto if she had any ideas for a "pretty" piece of music that was at my level and she gave me a piece titled "Arabesque" or something of that nature. It's challenging because it allows me to shift through cords on both of my hands, but also useful because it's repetitive and I can take my time learning the notes in bass clef. I practiced for around an hour focusing on learning different pieces of music in our textbook and getting used to where the notes are on the keyboard. I want to go down today to practice a little more if I have the time.

I decided to try something outside of the book, so I chose a song that comes up on shuffle on my ipod all the time. Its called "Almost Lover" by A Fine Frenzy. I found the sheet music online from a piano blog and its surprisingly easy. Not easy enough that I'm fantastic at it already but I'm working on it! I think its a good piece to work on right now because most of the notes on the left hand are whole notes (yay! I'm still not fabulous at reading bass clef yet) and the right hand is mostly chords repeated as quarter notes that change with every measure. It actually resembles the last few things I was learning in the book, so its pretty convenient. Plus, I like the song and can sing along :). I practiced for about an hour last night in the music department and practiced probably about three hours last week (I'm determined..plus I don't have a lot of homework yet..). Hopefully I'll be able to play it for you on Thursday!
